Mobile companies and experts meet at the Mobile World Congress on the Fira de Barcelona. Initially launched as a pure congress, a large part of the event takes place in exhibition halls, where companies from all over the world present products and services related to mobile communications.

Now there is no longer the Mobile World Congress, at least not as a brand, which is now called MWC19. The variety of topics and exhibitors has continued to increase. This is the first major brand update for the global event portfolio in over a decade. We are moving quickly into a world where mobile connects everything. At the same time we extend our reach beyond mobile. The new brand retains the well-known acronym, but emphasizes less the subject of “mobile” to reflect today’s level of communication.
Nevertheless, it is not a public fair: Access to the fair is only available with prior registration. Editors from websites are on site and report daily news from the fair online.
More Than Just Smartphones
The fair receives special attention mainly through the presentation of new smartphones and other technical innovations in the field of mobile telephony. These include wearables such as smartwatches or fitness bands. For several years, there is a separate section for app developers. There, selected startups can present their ideas and meet with potential investors.
Topic Of The MWC19
The topic of this year’s edition is “intelligent connectivity” a term used to describe the combination of 5G high-speed networks, the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Big Data. Smart connectivity marks the beginning of a new era, defined by contextualized and personalized experiences that are offered anytime, anywhere. It is the future of the technology industry.
